John Joveniaux and Serge Michiels are passionated about guitars! John has been trained as a luthier in France and Serge has a vast knowledge of the world of guitars which is quite unique. Both have met some 9 years ago and have teamed up to design and build in their Brussels; Belgium facilities, guitars which are not of this world. This might seem exaggerated, but you have simply to look at the photos of their guitars built painstakingly by hand, to be convinced that there is a special magic.
The most impressive at first sight is the look of the guitars. This may be best described as Neo-vintage. These are the Bugattis of the guitar world. Musicians as different as jazz guitar player Philip Catherine, Stefan Olsdal (Placebo), Rick Nielsen and Billy Gibbons have recognised this and have used their guitars.
As with their minimalist and modern retro-design, inspired by classic car design, their working techniques are also the old way just routers, rasps, scrapers, a little bit of sanding, and a lot of elbow oil. One of the most striking feature is that, even if some parts are purchased from renown spare part providers they modify those existing parts to their design and quality standards. And they are not afraid to innovate and come up with odd techniques to get their ideas into the real world! One striking example is the decoration on the Billy Gibbon’s guitar, it is made from a spoon and a knife you have at home in your kitchen. Here it looks like an automative part straight from the ’50!
For the electronic section they choose the simplicity of vintage-style pickups and controls. Standard pickups are from Bare Knuckle or David Barfuss. If you want to step up they can also provide Vintage Lab pickups from Stephens Design.
As with all our builders, Serge and John are there to assist you in designing your special custom guitar. Choose your basic design, add your custom colour and technical specification and you get the guitar of your dreams.
If you wish to have a high quality and distinctive guitar this should be your choice!
