The Story Behind

Entering the US market was a challenge for most european guitar builders. Arrangements had to be found. Between 1963 and 1964, Ampeg made an agreement with Burns of London to import five models built in England. All five are directly identical to the Burns version, with the exception that the pick-guard's logo read "Ampeg by Burns of London." All five models were renamed for the U.S. market.

The Wild Dog (Model EG1-S) was made between 1963 and 1964. This instrument was built by the Burns Guitar company, and essentially is a re-badged Burns Jazz Split Sound. The “Wild Dog” setting is basically an out-of-phase sound like you get in the in-between positions on a Strat. For the early 1960’s this was quite innovative and good marketing!
