The Story Behind

About the Guitar:

This 2000 PRS Custom 22 Soapbar finished in orange was made for and played by Rick Derringer. Rick has played with acts such as The McCoys, Edgar Winter, Johnny Winter, Steely Dan, Todd Rundgren, "Weird Al" Yankovic, Ringo Starr's 11th All-Starr Band and more.

This is a completely custom guitar with figured flame maple neck and headstock, highly figured maple top, gold hardware, 3-way toggle, 3 soapbar pickups.

As with most of his guitars, Rick put his "RD" initials on the guitar; here they were removed to give the original appearance as used on stage.

This guitar is featured on many recordings and most prominently in the DVD: Live At Cheney Hall (2006). This show captured Rick, Tom Curiale and Bruce Waibel in 2002 in a great live performance at Cheney Hall, a historical 19th century music hall.

The back-up guitar for this concert, a sparkle purple Mockingbird, and which can be seen on stage, is also in the TYS collection. That one was the last of the B.C. Rich Mockingbirds Rick used to play from the '70 on.

This PRS sounds great as can be heard in the extracts from the Cheney Hall concert:
