The Story Behind

This was a Jeff Kollman owned 1948 Gibson L7.

This guitar is very much like the L5 played by Wes Montgomery. The difference being the cutaway in the L5. The non cutaway has a bit larger tone.

The important modification to note on this guitar is that in 1948, this model did not have pickups. This was a modification done later on.

Kollman purchased this guitar at Dallas Texas Vintage guitar show back in 1997. Note the early Gibson logo in the photo. All the guitars Kollman owns are handpicked for their great and unique tonality. This guitar is very easy to play. It features a very fast neck with low action. No fret buzz. Very straight neck. Pickups are the Gibson PAF. The pickups are low output which allows the player to hear the tone of the wood. The guitar has been repainted. The bridge and tuners have been updated as well.

Jeff presents the guitar in the interview section of his Cosmosquad DVD 'Lights ,Camera, Squad!!

This guitar was used on the recording of 'Dr Blotter' from The Chad Smith's Bombastic Meatbats "More Meat" CD, 2010. Jeff recorded with this Gibson L7 the song 'Unforgettable' for his grandmother who passed away in early 2011.
